The Perils of Working in Public May 2001

B+B were invited by artist and activist Zuky Serper to contribute to Workers of the world - Where art thou?, a conference held at Chelsea College of Art on 30 April 2001. This day of discussion and debate was an attempt by Zuky to consider where and how political motivations within art practice were currently manifested. Held one day before Mayday 2001, it was also a rallying cry to find out what common causes or collective desires there may be among the group. Contributors to the day included Susanne Clausen (Szuper Gallery), Gustav Metzger and Noel Douglas (ATAC / Movement of the Imagination). B+B initiated a spoof-seminar, providing advice and strategies for artists to work in public or in collaboration whilst avoiding New Labour funding jargon.
