Why work with art?
What is the value of art?
The first Art School workshops will take place at Plymouth Arts Centre in
October 2006.
The workshops are suitable for Plymouth-based:
- professionals in local government, businesses, health and other organisations,
involved either directly or indirectly in the commissioning of contemporary
visual art.
- artists who are interested in engaging with commissions and employees in the commercial and public sector.
Dates:
Art School for Commissioners 17 October 9.30 am – 5.30pm
Art School for Artists 18 October 9.30am – 5.30pm
Workshop and Dinner for all participants 25 October 2.30pm – 8.00pm
Day One (Tuesday 17 October for commissioners or Wednesday 18 October for
artists): A one-day workshop led by Art School Instructors. This day will
involve presentations of case studies, an alternative tour of Plymouth and
a practical exercise developing a brief and proposals for a commission.
Day Two (Wednesday 25 October for all participants): An afternoon workshop
in the format of a discussion and dinner. This will be a chance to share
needs and concerns over the commissioning of art. It will also offer an
opportunity to consider the practical implications of taking these ideas
into the workplace.
